Eyewear - Masunaga

Mentioning the name Masunaga, a cornerstone of Japanese eyewear with more than a hundred years of company history behind it, means immediately being transported into the graceful charm of an old 1960s film. It means recognizing the value of a process that involves 200 production steps, a company that still brushes the acetate frames of glasses with clay. On the inside of each temple you will find the claim written in Japanese: "light that shines", to testify to the brilliance of each pair of glasses, which is as soft as silk. Masunaga, Japan's oldest eyewear factory, for me is synonymous with elegance beyond measure, with refinement in detail, and is the prestigious element of a showcase I set up. Masunaga is the marvel of craftsmanship aimed at a customer who makes eyewear the best tool for finding himself.

Masunaga Eyewear

In 1905, Gozaemon Masunaga established one of the most successful and oldest eyewear factories in Fukui, Japan, with the most skilled artisans in the area. It is one of the few companies to have all the necessary processes in-house, from raw materials to production and finishing, allowing them to maintain the highest quality standards and take care of every detail.

Masunaga Eyeglasses

Masunaga prescription glasses are true works of art. In Masunaga's timeless productions, we also see an exciting collaboration with designer Kenzo Takada, who brings even more richness and refinement with a touch of modernity. Some models from this collaboration, made of titanium, acetate, and 24-carat gold, have even won the Silmo d'Or.

Masunaga Eyewear

Over 200 manual processes are required to create a pair of Masunaga Eyewear. They work with extremely light Japanese beta titanium and acetate sheets that are aged for six months, then finely polished by hand with a clay compound that gives the product a velvety finish. You can find the entire collection at our two Bottega di Sguardi boutiques on Via del Parione 54/r and Via Marconi 19 f/r in Florence.
